    Abstract

Introduction Lentil is used mainly for human consumption as a source of protein and carbohydrate in soups, stews and vegetarian dishes. It is grown to improve economic returns to producers, diversify and lengthen crop rotations and reduce the requirement for nitrogen fertilizer. Lentil, a member of the legume family, Leguminosae, can supply a significant part of its nitrogen requirement by fixing nitrogen from the air when inoculated with the appropriate rhizobial inoculant. The pattern of nutrients in the proximal composition of lentil is similar to that of other grain?legumes, but seed protein content (19.5–35.5%). Fiber concentration is low and is largely within the seed testa, so the fiber in lentil meal can be reduced if it is de-hul

    Abstract

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a unique medicinal herb mostly utilized for substitution of the sugar, producing zero-calorie sweeteners known as steviol glycosides (SGs), including stevioside (ST), rebaudioside A (RA), rebaudioside F (RF), rebaudioside C (RC) and dulcoside (DU). While bio-fertilizers have been demonstrated to enhance the production of secondary metabolites in many plant species, their effects on S. rebaudiana have not been thoroughly studied. This paper presents a study on the effects of bio-fertilizers and their interactions on modifying and improving the SGs content and biomass production in S. rebaudiana at two growth stages, vegetative and flowering. Abstract

The low percentage of soil organic matter, especially in sandy soils in most arid and semiarid regions of the world including Iran, and the increase in the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and the resulting environmental damages make it inevitable to use organic fertilizers and soil amendments for increasing the water and fertilizer efficiency in sustainable agriculture. This study aimed to investigate the physicochemical changes of soil under the organic and mineral treatments of nitrogen and zeolite and alleviation of water stress in fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum). The experimental treatments included five irrigation regimes (without stress, mild water deficit stress, and severe water deficit stress (irrigation after depl

    Abstract

Salinity stress is one of the main limiting factors of medicinal plant growth and may affect their characteristics and chemical composition. In order to evaluate the response of different species of Iranian mint to salinity stress, an experiment was designed in greenhouse conditions. In this experiment, six Iranian mint species were cultivated in pots under different salinity stress including 0, 2.5, 5, and 7.5 dS/m. The chlorophyll indices (a, b, total, and a/b ratio), carotenoids, total anthocyanin, total phenolic and flavonoid content, antioxidant activity, dry matter yield, and essential oil content were measured in two different harvest stages. Salinity stress affected various measured traits. The results showed that despite the negat

    Abstract

Safflower is an oilseed plant rich source of omega 3 and 6 whose fatty acids composition may be affected by water deficit stress. Thus, filed experiments were conducted in Tehran, Iran during 2017 and 2018 growing seasons to investigate the influence of foliar application polyamines on fatty acid compositions and agronomic traits under deficit irrigation stress as a split plot with four replications. The studied treatments included irrigation at two levels of normal irrigation (I1, 50 %) and deficit irrigation at flowering stage (I2, 75 %) (irrigation after depletion of 50 % and 75 % moisture of field capacity, respectively) as the main plot and foliar application treatments at 10 levels included (water foliar application or control, foliar

    Abstract

Introduction Water and nitrogen fertilizer are major determinants of the level of agricultural production in the world, in addition to the quantity and quality of Medicinal plants are also effective. Iran's climate is mainly dry and semi-arid, in such a situation, where abnormal environmental stresses occur for plants. Improving crop yields in these stress conditions require good management of inputs (such as water and nutrients), their amount and type, and knowledge of physiological processes and plant defense mechanisms is essential. Water stress can significantly alter the metabolism of plants and reduce growth and photosynthesis and ultimately yield of plants. In this situation, effective management of water consumption in agriculture i

    Abstract

One of the greatest challenges in recent years is providing enough food to feed the increasing world population, while available freshwater resources become limited. However, effective fertilizer management has also a fundamental role to improve yield quality and quantity. A field experiment was conducted over 2 years, using a split-plot arrangement in a randomized complete block design. The experiments had three water deficit severity treatments: 25%(control), 40%(mild stress), and 55%(severe stress) depletion from the available water. The subplot division consisted of six fertilizer treatments; FR 1: unfertilized (control), FR 2: 140 kg ha− 1 urea; FR 3: 105 kg ha− 1 urea+ 3.3 ton ha− 1 vermicompost; FR 4: 70 kg ha− 1 urea+ 6.6 to

To study the effects of foliar application of putrescine (distilled water (0), 0.75, 1.5, and 2.25 mM) and water de cit stress (20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% available soil water depletion (ASWD)) on the physiological, biochemical, and molecular attributes of sage, a factorial experiment was performed in a completely randomized design with three replications in the growth chamber. Abstract

Introduction: The chickpea is mainly cultivated in agricultural systems in arid and semi-arid regions and needs low input. Specifications such as the ability to fix nitrogen, deep rooting and the effective use of atmospheric depression have led the plant to play an important role in stabilizing crop production systems. On average chickpea seed contain 23% protein is highly digestible. Water deficit stress is the most important factor limiting the growth and agricultural products in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Drought stress is one of the most important factors in grain yield reduction of chickpea during pod formation and grain filling. Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of late-season drought stress and foliar application of zinc sulfate (ZnSO 4) and manganese sulfate (MnSO 4) on quantitative and qualitative traits of different rapeseed cultivars in 2 years. Treatments were included two levels of irrigation (normal and drought stress), four levels of micronutrient foliar application (water spraying, ZnSO 4, and MnSO 4, separately, and combined application of them), and three rapeseed cultivars (Nima, R15, and KS7). Results indicated that the qualitative and quantitative traits were significantly affected by irrigation, cultivars, and foliar application treatments. The highest seed oil content (43.9%), oil yield (2175.9 kg ha− 1), oleic acid (62.56%), and linolei
