    Abstract

Faced with economic recession, firms struggle to find ways to stay competitive and maintain market share. Effective coordination of the supply chain can solve this problem, but this may fail if existing capital constraints and financial flows are ignored. This study addresses the challenge by exploiting coordination through joint decision-making on the physical and financial flows of a capital-constrained supply chain. We also consider the capital-constrained member’s financing limitations that lead to lost sales. Two scenarios based on non-coordinated and coordinated structures are modeled in the form of bi-objective optimization problems that simultaneously optimize system costs and service levels. The models are solved using the

    Abstract

The goal of this paper is to propose an efficient operations-finance integrated decision framework for the manufacturers who face some financial challenges such as capital shortage, high cost of debt, and limited financing capacity. We developed a mixed-integer nonlinear model by extending the multi-product newsvendor problem to establish such a decision framework. To solve the proposed model, a three-phase approach is established based on the analytical analysis of the model features. In the first phase, an exact algorithm is proposed, which leads to a significant reduction in problem complexity. In the second phase, the financing capacity constraint is released and the rest of the problem is solved through KKT conditions. To handle the fi

    Abstract

Ensuring sustainable electricity supply is a key issue facing decision-makers. Due to its impact on system reliability, balancing supply and demand is essential. Electricity subsidy policies in many countries have led to high consumption and low power plant efficiency, and may cause an imbalance in the future. This research analyzes different electricity subsystems using system dynamics to investigate how and when low energy prices lead to an unstable situation. Simulation results using Iran's data show demand surpasses supply with a continuation of current trends. However, when the prices increase 90%, demand is met, and subsidy decreases by about 20%.

    Abstract

A bi-objective mathematical model is developed to simultaneously consider the quay crane and yard truck scheduling problems at container terminals. Main real-world assumptions, such as quay cranes with non-crossing constraints, quay cranes’ safety margins and precedence constraints are considered in this model. This integrated approach leads to better efficiency and productivity at container terminals. Based on numerical experiments, the proposed mathematical model is effective for solving small-sized instances. Two versions of the simulated annealing algorithm are developed to heuristically solve the large-sized instances. Considering the allocation of trucks as a grouping problem, a grouping version of the simulated annealing algorithm

    Abstract

The majority of research has concentrated on the creation of robust schedules to manage the uncertainties and disruptions that called pro-active scheduling. Different from previous research on pro-active scheduling, this paper investigates robustness enhancement of an existing schedule using inserting resource buffers instead of creating robust schedule. The present study aims to present an algorithm for robustness enhancement of schedules through resource buffer insertion during the planning horizon in which the availability of resources varies with time and the uncertainty is in the required renewable resources for activities. Since surrogate measures can be used to measure schedule robustness, 20 resources and resource/time-oriented surr

    Abstract

In this research, an integrated approach is presented to simultaneously solve quay crane scheduling and yard truck scheduling problems. A mathematical model was proposed considering the main real-world assumptions such as quay crane non-crossing, precedence constraints and variable berthing times for vessels with the aim of minimizing vessels completion time. Based on the numerical results, this proposed mathematical model has suitable efficiency for solving small instances. Two versions of imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) are presented to heuristically solve the problem. The grouping version of algorithm (G-ICA) is used to solve the large-sized instances based on considering the allocation of trucks as a grouping problem. Effectiven

    Abstract

This study addresses the pickup and delivery problem for cross-docking strategy, in which shipments are allowed to be transferred from suppliers to retailers directly as well as through cross-docks. Usual models that investigate vehicle routing in cross-docking networks force all vehicles to stop at the cross-dock even if a shipment is about to a full truckload or the vehicle collects and delivers the same set of products. In order to eliminate unnecessary stops at the dock, and thus reduce transportation costs, the designed model tries to decide about the best approach to deliver orders to retailers in a tailored network. In such a system, two objectives are taken into account: minimization of the total transportation cost and minimization
